Decaf cold drip coffee, the perfect coffee for your next cocktail

Decaf Cold Drip Coffee, the perfect coffee for your next cocktail

And more reasons why you need it in your life!

Hands down the most common question we get asked is – do you sell a decaf cold drip coffee?

Coffee is such a social drink; we love catching up with friends over a coffee and it’s the perfect excuse to take a coffee break whether you’re in the office or at home.

And while we love our smooth delicious cold drip coffee, we know there can be a huge amount of variability with caffeine tolerance. Some people find one cup enough and some can drink many more.

Which is why we have introduced the first and only decaf cold drip coffee.

To be honest, decaf coffee hasn’t always had the best reputation. There are probably a few reasons but the main one is that in the past the flavour just didn’t stack up to a caffeinated coffee. Fortunately, more modern processing has meant that removing the caffeine doesn’t have to degrade the flavour.

And good decaf has its place in the coffee world. It’s great if you’re sensitive to caffeine or trying to cut down, and it’s ideal to drink at night in cocktails or when indulging in an affogato if you don’t want to be up all night.

And that’s the beauty of a good decaf coffee in that you can have a delicious coffee without needing to worry about overdoing it on the caffeine.

What is a Mountain Water process?

Our single origin Ethiopian decaf beans go through a mountain water process* to decaffeinate the coffee without the use of harsh chemicals while also preserving the coffee’s amazing flavour.

In the decaffeination process the green coffee beans are immersed in water in order to extract the caffeine. The water already contains the soluble compounds of the coffee beans that are responsible for its flavour, so that during the extraction of the caffeine the bean's flavour is not affected.

To separate the caffeine from the water containing the soluble components, the water passes through a special filter which removes the caffeine, and the water is ready to be used again to extract the caffeine from the next batch of beans.

With this result we end up with beans that have been tested to be 99.8% caffeine free.

What we love about our Decaf coffee

Dark City Foundry decaf cold drip coffee has that smooth chocolate taste with just a hint of citrus and a beautiful creamy finish.

It’s amazing black over ice and the perfect AM or PM coffee. All the flavour and none of the caffeine of its sibling!
