Frequently Asked Questions
What is cold drip coffee?
Cold drip is a method of brewing coffee using cold water and plenty of time.
Pure filtered water, kept chilled, is very slowly added to the coffee over 10 hours. The fresh water slowly flows through the coffee gently extracting the flavour and caffeine.
With the cold drip process the coffee grounds are never soaking in their own extract, instead fresh water is slowly but continuously flowing past.
This cold process draws out fewer bitter and acidic from the coffee bean than hot methods such as espresso, giving cold drip coffee a lighter more floral flavour and minimising bitterness.
The slow extraction also means that the caffeine content is higher than some other methods, so you don’t need to drink as much to get a smooth caffeine hit.
Our coffee is triple filtered and bottled fresh ready for you to drink.
We think cold drip is a wonderful way to experience the flavours of coffee.
Where do you ship to?
We ship anywhere in Australia.
Shipping costs are $10 for orders under $50 and free for orders $50 and over.
Please note that we are unable to deliver to PO boxes.
What are the ingredients?
Just pure filtered water and ground coffee, it’s that simple.
How do I store it?
For the best shelf life keep it refrigerated, this way it's also ready to drink whenever you want it. It will keep fine for a few days without refrigeration, so it's perfect if you want to take it biking, camping or travelling.
What is the shelf life?
The shelf life will be 6-8 weeks. However, once you open the bottle, we suggest that it's best to consume within 2 weeks.
Where do you source your coffee from?
Our coffee comes from a roaster located in Mulgrave, Melbourne and is a South American blend with its origins in Brazil, Nicaragua and Columbia.
Before we launched Dark City Foundry we tried so many different coffees from so many countries. We found this blend worked best with our hand built cold drip coffee system.
How can I purchase?
On this website! Currently we're only selling online and at some Melbourne farmers markets during the warmer months, but please email us at email@example.com if you have any enquiries.
Do you supply wholesale or commercial quantities?
Yes, please contact us and we'd be happy to help out!
Do I need to keep my cold drip coffee refrigerated?
While the coffee is fine out of the fridge for a few days, best to keep it refrigerated once you receive it.
Why did you pick the name Dark City Foundry?
We brew our Cold Drip Coffee overnight while the city is dark and sleeping, which is where Dark City came from.
A Foundry was historically a place where metal was forged to create metal products, but these days the word is applied to many places that create things. We thought that the word Foundry embodied the idea of the physical labour that's involved in all the steps from growing the coffee plant through to finally creating our finished product.
So Dark City Foundry is about a place where our products are formed while it's dark outside and the city sleeps.
