Chocolate Coffee Orange Protein Balls

Chocolate Coffee Orange Protein Balls

It’s been ages since I’ve made protein balls. They were all the rage years ago and I used to experiment with a different flavour every week. But, in a cleaning spree a while back, the food processor moved to our storage unit and making protein balls went with it.

Lately I’ve been craving a healthy afternoon snack that wasn’t cheese and crackers. As much as I love cheese – it doesn’t love me back! I love carrot sticks too, but they’re not the most filling snack. So, I thought why not find the food processor and create a coffee protein ball recipe that also incorporates our new dehydrated fruit (as they have so many more uses than a G&T garnish). 😊

The dehydrated fruit I chose to use were oranges. Because we are using real oranges (not orange flavoured drops), you get a flavoursome and satisfying protein ball.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup Dark City Foundry cold drip coffee
  • 1 cup raw almonds
  • 1/2 cup hazelnuts
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin seeds
  • 6 medjool dates
  • 1/4 cup shredded coconut
  • 2 tbs cacao powder
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract (or 1 tsp vanilla powder)
  • 1/4 cup chocolate protein powder
  • 1/4 cup dehydrated orange slices

Method:

Place all ingredients in a food processor and process until the mixture comes together. It should hold together when you press some of the mix between your hands.

Roll the mixture between your hands into balls. Option is to then roll them in some raw cacao for extra chocolate goodness.

Store the choc orange protein balls in an airtight container in the fridge for 5-7 days and freeze any leftovers.

Makes 18-20 balls

Note:

I have tried this recipe with a few varieties of dehydrated fruit (blood oranges, limes and oranges) and my favourite by far is oranges. The combination with the chocolate is hard to go past!
